An old coal power station is being converted into a clean energy provider and an art space to boot.
The Luckenwalde power station, located not far from Berlin, ran on brown coal for more than 70 years. It lay dormant for 30 years, but has now reopened its doors as a sustainable energy provider that’s totally CO2 neutral. The station will now use a combination of Biomass and Pyrolysis technology.
It’s estimated that the new Power station will be able to produce enough electricity for around 100 single-person households. Th upper floors will be an art gallery, with the bottom floor being a workshop for artists.
What do you think? Is this multi-purpose conversion idea one that could be implemented in converted plants in the UK too?
